Troubleshooting Common HP Printer Errors: A Complete Guide
When a problem occurs with the printer, the alarm light starts blinking, or an error message appears on the display. Let’s take a look at the types of errors that can occur and their possible solutions.

E1/E2 Error: Paper Size Mismatch
The error occurs when the paper size inserted in the printer does not match the paper size selected in the print settings. For example, if you select "A4" in the print settings but insert "Letter" size paper in the tray, the printer might either print incorrectly or throw an error.
Solution:
Ensure that the paper size in the print settings matches the paper size loaded in the tray to prevent printing errors and ensure accuracy.
E3 Error: Disk Encoder Sensor Not Working
This error points to an issue with the disk encoder sensor, which helps monitor the printer's mechanical movements.
Solution:
Clean the disk encoder sensor using isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
You can also clean the flat cable with an eraser or replace the sensor if necessary.
E4 Error: Paper Jam
The E4 error occurs when paper gets stuck inside the printer, causing a paper jam.
Solution:
Gently pull out the jammed paper from the printer.
Restart the printer after clearing the jam to resume normal operation.
E5 Error: Scanner Malfunction
This error indicates that the scanner is not functioning properly, often due to a mechanical failure or a scan that wasn't completed successfully.
Solution:
Restart the printer.
Clean and reconnect the flat cable.
Inspect the scanner for physical obstructions.
Update or reinstall the scanner driver.
If the issue persists, consider replacing the scanner unit.

E6 Error: Carriage Jam
A carriage jam occurs when the printer's carriage (the part that holds the ink cartridges) is stuck or obstructed.
Solution:
Check inside the printer for paper jams or obstructions.
Ensure the carriage is moving freely without any blockages.
E7 Error: Ink Tank Level Check
The E7 error signifies a low ink level or an issue with the ink sensor, causing the printer to stop printing.
Solution:
Check the visible ink levels in the ink tank. Refill the tank if the ink is low or empty.
Press the "Resume" button on the printer’s control panel (usually a triangle inside a circle) after refilling the ink to continue printing.
E8 Error: Firmware or Factory Reset Issue
This error occurs when the printer enters an error state after a firmware update or when factory settings are restored.
Solution:
Reset the printer:
Turn off the printer or disconnect the power cord.
Wait for at least 60 seconds.
Again connect the power and turn on the printer..
Restore factory settings:
Reset the printer to its factory defaults.
Use the HP Smart app to remove and add the printer again.
E9 Error: Ink System Maintenance Needed
This error indicates that the printer's ink system requires maintenance.
Solution:
Press the "Resume" button.
Print an Ink System Maintenance page.
Follow the on-screen instructions to open and close the printhead access door multiple times.
Once completed, close the printhead access door and try printing again.
